The Dress
A seriously gorgeous three-piece outfit, in 1920s / flapper / Great Gatsby style, probably made in the 1970s. (I had it on display at a fair recently, and it stopped everyone in their tracks.) Lightweight for summer. You could remove the veil and wear the outfit for events after the wedding.
There are cream lace appliques and ribbon roses in cream, peach and apricot, with green leaves and pinky-brown ribbon, at the front neckline dip of the dress, where the jacket joins in front, and on the matching fascinator hat (with veil). The sleeveless dress is probably of embossed satinet (the labels have been partly cut off). The mannequin makes it look more décolleté than it really is. It has a high-low dropped waist; then a swirly skirt with a high-low hemline, lower at the back than the front. It fastens with a zip and hook-and-eye at the back, below a V-neckline. The long-sleeved jacket is unlined lace, apart from the shoulder pads, which are outlined at the front by lace appliques. Its collar, cuffs and hem are scalloped, and the sides of the V-front are trimmed with ivory ric-rac braid. The jacket fastens with four buttons on each cuff, and at the low front with two buttons; this area also has ribbon streamers in cream. Like the dress, it is lower at the back.
The hat, which is of peach-coloured satin, has additional cream, pink and green floral ribbons, two tiers of veil (showing slight aging of the net when you look very closely), and two net streamers with scattered pearl-look beads. It was made by Beverley Hills Millinery. (The fourth photo has been turned sideways, to show detail of the hat and the jacket fastening.) The headpiece could be separated from the veil and worn as a fascinator.
Please note that the size listed is only an approximation; you need to check that the measurements would fit you. The outfit is a generous size 10: about bust 89cm, waist 77, hip 89 (the hips could be a little larger if the jacket is left unfastened).
The dress and jacket have been hand-washed recently. From a smoke-free home (with sweet-smelling moth repellent). I'm near Hahndorf, and am flexible re trying-on times.
I have some dresses in 1920s styles for bridesmaids and flowergirl (not a matching set, as each one is individual). Vintage, for an Earth-friendly wedding! See www.totnessvintage.com
