The Dress

This was my dream dress from the moment I saw it and I'm hoping it can bring someone else the same amount of joy it brought me. Purchased in 2017, I wore this to my city hall wedding in late summer 2018. Total wear: maybe 2 hours (no reception). I got it dry-cleaned about a month later and its been stored (flat) in a breathable garment bag since.

Pattern/Color: The dress has gorgeously detailed ivory lace that has a subtle floral pattern (its doesn't scream flower, but if you look close up you can notice the small flowers, petals, and leaves that make up the pattern). Underneath the lace, there are two layers of cream-colored polyester lining. So this gives the effect of the dress color being somewhere between ivory and cream. The picture above showing the back of the dress is pretty true to life regarding the color.

Neckline/Bust: The sleeves are ivory lace (no cream lining), have a scalloped edge, and are 2" at their narrowest and become gradually wider as they go up. For me the edge of the sleeve hung maybe a 1/2 inch over the right angle of my shoulder (vs the model picture where the sleeve ends before the shoulder). The polyester lining in the bust has molded cups, so I only wore a NuBra (adhesive bra cups). For reference I'm a 32B. I didn't fill out the bust completely, but there wasn't obvious gaping.

Back: Combination of sheer netting and ivory lace (no cream lining). There are approximately 30 fabric covered buttons. Note--if you go to the BHLDN website, the picture they have of this dress only shows about 20 buttons that are spaced farther apart than those on my dress. For me the back of the dress laid really smoothly. After the buttons end, there is a small zipper.

Train/Length: About a 2 foot train, but looked longer on me because of how short I am (5'3 and wore flats with the dress). I didn't alter the length of the dress, but I would have if I could. If you are my height and wear 3+ inch heals the length should be fine. Any shorter than 5'3 and I would recommend having it shortened/tailored.

Alterations/Fit: I did not need to have any alterations for this dress at all. Fit perfectly. Sizing from the website is below. For reference I'm 5'3, 110 lbs, wear size 0-2 depending on brand. 24" waist and 35.5" hip. I would say the dress fit pretty snug in the hip and thigh area. For the waist I probably had maybe an extra inch of room, but there is no stretch in the fabric so I wouldn't recommend this size for someone much bigger than me.

Bustle: I did get a tailor to add in tiny hook/eye closures so I could bustle the dress (get that train off the ground while walking), but I imagine based on your height/style you may want to get it bustled differently (or not at all). The hook/eye closures are teeny (like millimeters) so you can't even see that they are there. Each of the 2 cream polyester layers have 3 french bustles in a row in the back. So they kinda rouche up, but you can't really tell since the lace still covers everything. Then the lace layer has a single American bustle, so that midpart of the train gets brought up to like the top of my butt. Hope that's clear. If your interested, I'm happy to send pictures/more details.
