Buying a Pre Loved Wedding Dress

If you are on a tight budget, or you want to just spend a very reasonable amount of money on your wedding dress you should make a point of exploring options in "pre loved" wedding dresses. These are gowns that have already been happily worn during a wedding day, and are now available for sale at a serious discount.

Why would a bride sell her gown? There are all kinds of reasons behind the selling of a pre loved wedding dress, including everything from financial pressures to the ending of a relationship, but this never implies that purchasing such a dress is anything but savvy and frugal.

Brides can find everything from exclusive labels to vintage beauties in this way, but there are a few guidelines to follow before making such a purchase. For one thing, one of the primary sources for such gowns is the Internet, and this means that it might not be possible for the buyer to physically examine the gown in advance of the purchase. This means that a serious discussion should occur between the buyer and the seller, and there must be some sort of guarantee around the purchase too.

For instance, the seller should offer a 30-day grace period during which time the gown can be returned for a full refund if it does not meet the terms described. Additionally, they should certify the condition of the dress too. Tears, small stains and discolorations, or weakened seams might be undetected through the lens of a camera, and only a physical inspection (or an honest description by the seller) can allow the buyer to see things for themselves.

The other major outlet for pre loved wedding dresses is bridal shops. Many have rooms or sections dedicated to re-selling gowns of all kinds too. This is another way to seek out a seriously discounted option for a wedding day as well.

When considering any pre-worn gown, however, it is important to "know your stuff". For example, if the seller is advertising a gown as a specific brand name you should be able to get some sort of substantial proof that this is indeed the case. Ask for a photograph of the receipt or even the label. Do some research to be sure that the designer did create a gown of that style and appearance. Also be sure that the pricing is fair and reasonable. Find out what such gowns are going for when brand new and then assess the asking price from the seller in comparison to that amount.

When discussing the condition of the garment, be sure to consider the areas where stress tends to occur, or consider where stains are most likely to appear, and then ask the seller to send you detailed photographs of these areas. For example, underarm perspiration will usually stain a gown, and if left untreated is a permanent issue. Alternately, the areas where sleeves attach to the bodice can be easily torn, or the seams of fitted styles can be burst during the wedding day too. Demanding proof that a gown is in excellent condition is fair and reasonable, and a motivated seller is usually happy to comply with requests.
